Live Poultry Markets Ordered to Close for One Week After Confirmed Bird Flu Cases
After multiple confirmed cases of bird flu at live poultry markets in New York City, Governor Hochul has ordered all markets in NYC, Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk counties to close for one week. Markets with no birds showing symptoms of bird flu may sell their remaining poultry within three days, then clean and disinfect their premises. Afterward, they must remain closed for at least five days and pass a state inspection before reopening.
